Guests To Experience A 'Habanera Night' In Princeton Saturday
Candice Hoyes, the first Music Curator at The Princeton Abbey, presents the second show in her 4-part series Saturday night.

PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton residents attending this weekend’s Habanera Nights event will have the chance to explore a night of Cuban habaneras, Brazilian bossa nova and other classic melodies.
“Habanera Nights ” is the next event in internationally-acclaimed vocal artist Candice Hoyes’ four-part series. It takes place on Saturday, May 19 at The Princeton Abbey, 75 Mapleton Road in Princeton.
Hoyes, who has been appointed the first Music Curator for The Princeton Abbey, will sing. She will be joined by Zaccai Curtis (Piano), Luques Curtis (Bass), Karina Colis (Drums).

The concert runs from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., and is followed by a light reception allowing guests to tour and learn more about The Abbey. It is free and open to the public.
The Abbey, which has recently been beautifully and lovingly renovated, has hosted several local musical groups including Princeton Pro Musica, The Princeton Symphony Orchestra, Gloria Consort, the Westminster Choir College and is the venue for several performances affiliated with the Princeton Arts Festival this year.

The first part of Hoyes’ series was in April. Other upcoming shows are scheduled for June 16 and July 21.
Hoyes is a storyteller who dares to draw from sources rarely combined. Following her critically-acclaimed 2015 album debut, “On a Turquoise Cloud,” Hoyes has performed worldwide, including appearances in Paris, Bucharest, New York, Los Angeles and more.
In early 2018, she curated a Minnie Riperton show at Joe's Pub at the Public Theater and “Lena Horne at 100” at Harlem Stage. Her music was featured at New York Fashion Week and in the BET/TV5 Monde film USA, “La Recette Caribéenne du Succes.”
Hoyes has written for publications including the Los Angeles Review of Books, Columbia Journal of Gender and Law, and Blavity. As a public speaker, Hoyes delivered a 2017 TED Salon Talk that included a live performance. She has spoken on international platforms including Music at Google, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Dropbox Artist Spotlight (for which she was the first), LinkedIn Artist Spotlight, Left of Black, Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights in Law, The Wing, and the Harvard Alumni Association.
She created and leads a Jazz series at Lincoln Center for the City University of New York, and has taught across the country including UC Berkeley, Duke University, and the United Nations School, as well as numerous museums, cultural centers, and public schools for all ages. Hoyes is an honors graduate of Harvard University.
