The first Pi Day in Princeton was held in 2009, when resident Mimi Omiecinski called local organizations and businesses to put together the event. That year, Pi Day attracted 4,000 residents to Princeton.

Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159. Pi Day gives math enthusiasts an opportunity to recite the infinite digits of Pi, talk to their friends about math, and eat lots of pie.
