How Much Is COVID Spreading In Mercer County With Delta Variant?
The variant accounted for more than half of NJ cases over a four-week period. Here's a look at the impact it's having on Mercer County.
MERCER COUNTY, NJ — Mercer County and New Jersey have seen an uptick in coronavirus cases. But what does that mean for the county?
The county averaged 34 new cases per day this week with nine new probable cases being reported daily, according to the New Jersey Department of Health.
As of Aug. 2, Princeton alone reported 10 positive cases in the past seven days and 14 positive cases in the past 14 days. The municipality has now reinstated all COVID-19 safety protocols in municipal buildings. All staff and visitors, unvaccinated and vaccinated, will have to wear masks at municipal buildings, the township announced.

State and county officials continue to monitor the delta variant, which accounted for 83.9 percent of coronavirus cases in New Jersey over the last four weeks, according to data provided by the state department of health.

Mercer County and the rest of New Jersey have "moderate" COVID activity, according to New Jersey's latest weekly report. The determination is based on metrics such as case rate, positivity rate, and prevalence of COVID-like illnesses.
The uptick in cases statewide lead Gov. Phil Murphy to make two announcements this week.
On Friday, he announced that students, educators, staff, and visitors in all NJ K-12 schools will have to wear masks when the school year begins in the fall.

On Monday, he announced a vaccine mandate for many health care workers throughout the state, with affected employees required to take regular COVID-19 tests if they're not fully vaccinated against the disease.
