Hundreds March For Immigrant Workers Rights In Princeton

Around 400 people marched from the Witherspoon Presbyterian Church to Princeton University, on International Workers' Day.

PRINCETON, NJ — To commemorate International Workers’ Day, hundreds of people took to the streets in Princeton, demanding better pay for immigrant workers.

The march, organized by Unidad Latina en Accion NJ, saw workers and their families, advocates and faith leaders participate.

Around 400 people marched from the Witherspoon Presbyterian Church to the Fountain of Freedom in Princeton University.

“I am a domestic worker and have endured the abuses of employers who made me work extra hours with no pay,” said Anglea Ramos.

“That's why we need a worker center in Princeton for all domestic workers and day laborers because immigrant rights are workers' rights.”

The participants raised attention to the following demands:

“We are here today marching for all workers of the world, especially workers in Princeton from all industries, domestic workers, day laborers, restaurant workers, professors, teachers and graduate students,” said Ana Paola Pazmino, Executive Director, Unidad Latina en Acción NJ.

“Our demands are local and state needs that we fight for as we organize our immigrant workers.”
