John Witherspoon Middle School Holds First Place in Students Change Hunger Challenge
Students and staff at the school had collected 9,009 pounds of food as of Wednesday.

John Witherspoon Middle School has once again taken the lead when it comes to stamping out hunger in Mercer County.
As of Wednesday, the school was in first place in the Students Change Hunger challenge, with 9,009 pounds of food, according to Brian Peterson of Mercer Street Friends Food Bank.
The school won the Governor’s Cup last year by collecting 8,000 pounds of food.

Mercer Street Friends reports that it has received 28,523 pounds of food and funds from 13 schools this Thanksgiving season, up from 18,000 last year.
Do Something Club and Peer to Peer, with the support of John Witherspoon Middle School club advisors Kelly Riely and Ashante Thompson as well as many other staff and parent volunteers, have been collecting food and monetary donations, decorating boxes, creating signs for area businesses and developing mini-challenges to keep the enthusiasm going.
