On Saturday, May 11th at 7:30, Katie Welsh will perform the second concert in her Spring Cabaret Concert Series at the Arts Council of Princeton, Love…According to the Great American Songbook.

In this musical evening, Katie explores the joys and complications of love in a selection of songs from the Great American Songbook. The Great American Songbook is a collection of what are considered to be the best American songs written in the first half of the 20th Century. Often labeled “American standards” and largely sourced from Broadway and Hollywood musicals, these songs are being preserved by many organizations and performed by many contemporary artists, from Michael Feinstein to Paul McCartney. For this performance, Katie will be singing favorite love songs by George and Ira Gershwin, Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Cy Coleman and more.

Katie, local to the Princeton area, always offers a unique evening of song in the format of what she calls an “informative cabaret,” a concept she first explored a few years back as part of her senior thesis at Princeton University. In her patter, she’ll delve into some of the backstories and original contexts of the songs, and she’ll share insights into what makes the Great American Songbook so popular and enduring.
