Largest U.S. Open Qualifying Tournament in History Comes to Mercer County This Weekend
A total of 303 players begin their quest for the U.S. Open Tennis tournament this weekend.

The road to the U.S. Open begins at Mercer County Park.
The Mercer County Tennis Center will host a 2016 US Open Sectional Qualifier Tournament from June 18 through 22, the Mercer County Park Commission announced this week.
Luke Jensen, who won the men’s doubles championship with his younger brother Murphy at the 1993 French Open, is one of 303 total entrants in the tournament, which will be the biggest in the seven-year history of all qualifying tournaments.
Jensen is entered in the Mixed Doubles tournament.

Qualifying tournaments are held annually at 14 prestigious sites across the country, including the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.
The Mercer County Tennis Center will offer a free public tennis clinic for all ages and levels in conjunction with the US Open Sectional Qualifier Tournament.

The clinic will be held on Saturday, June 18, noon to 1:30 p.m., and will include a “hit for prizes” segment.
The clinic will be free, and RSVP is not required. Anyone interested in participating, should report to Court #2 of the Indoor Center at noon on Saturday. The clinic will be held only if the weather is favorable; if it rains, the tournament will be using the indoor courts.

Wednesday, June 22
11 a.m. Women’s Singles
1 p.m. Men’s Singles
3 p.m. Women’s Doubles
5 p.m. Men’s Doubles
7 p.m. Mixed Doubles
This year's U.S. Open is scheduled for Aug. 29-Sept. 11 at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in New York.
