Macy's and Hopewell Valley YMCA Team Up to Send Kids to Camp This Summer

Macy's Donates over $1,300 to Hopewell Valley YMCA to provide camp scholarships to families in need.

Campers from Hopewell Valley YMCA’s Camp Reign visited the Macy’s store at Quakerbridge Mall to deliver a personal thank you for the store’s support of the Y.

Macy’s donated $1,346 to the Hopewell Valley YMCA to provide camp scholarships to families in need of financial assistance to attend Hopewell Valley YMCA’s Camp Reign.

To show their appreciation, YMCA campers and staff joined YMCA board members and Macy’s staff at the Quakerbridge Macy’s on their way to their weekly camp field trip to present hand-made “thank you” banners and plenty of big smiles.

Hopewell Valley YMCA regularly seeks out support from donors and community partners such as Macy’s to provide subsidies and scholarships for all programs and services throughout the year including summer camp, before and after school child care, and youth sports programs. Last year, the Hopewell Valley YMCA distributed $75,000 in financial assistance to families that would otherwise not be able to take part in Y community programming.

“We are grateful to Macy’s for their efforts to give back to our community and support our YMCA’s charitable mission” says board president, Ryan Kennedy. Donations to the Y go directly towards helping families in the Hopewell Valley who need financial assistance with child care, summer camp and our other programs. Corporate partners like Macy’s allow us to support our community through our teen center, our Special Olympics programming, mental health first-aid training classes, afterschool enrichment and so much more. I cannot thank them enough.”

Macy’s contribution is part of a national partnership. In May of 2017, as part of their Celebrate Summer Campaign, Macy’s across the country held in store promotions to raise money in support of YMCA summer camp scholarship programs nationwide. Shoppers were invited to donate $3 to the cause in return for a 25% percent off Fashion Pass to Macy’s. Macy’s stores held employee rallies and promoted the program internally and with shoppers. Thanks to Macy’s and their shoppers, kids in the Hopewell Valley and across the country were given the gift of camp this summer to play, explore and discover new experiences.
