Man Sleeping Outside Hyatt Princeton Had Stolen Gun, Ammo: Police

Rashwan D. Ford was on parole from PA when police found him in possession of a stolen handgun and rounds of ammunition, authorities said.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A Mercer County man, who was sleeping in a pickup truck outside Hyatt Regency Princeton, was charged after police found a stolen gun and rounds of ammunition, West Windsor police said.

Rashwan D. Ford of Trenton was charged with DWI, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, recovered stolen property, possession of high capacity magazine and other offenses.

On Saturday, March 12 West Windsor police were called to Hyatt Regency Princeton on reports of a suspicious pickup truck parked at the side of the building. The truck was parked partially on the sidewalk and had very dark tinted windows, police said.

Ford was sleeping inside when officers knocked on the windows, police said. Finally, when Ford woke up officers determined he was intoxicated.

He was found with a stolen Smith & Wesson SD .40 caliber handgun, a (14) round capacity magazine, (13) hollow point .40 caliber rounds, (1) .40 caliber full metal jacket round in the chamber of the handgun, a Desantis Gunhide holster, a partially consumed tequila bottle and marijuana, police said.

The Smith & Wesson was reported as stolen from Raleigh County, WV, police said. Ford was currently on parole from PA.

Ford was placed under arrest and charged with various offenses. He was taken to the Mercer County Workhouse pending future Mercer County Superior Court proceedings.
