Mayor Liz Lempert Supports Town's Status as Sanctuary for Illegal Immigrants

Princeton doesn't surrender illegal immigrants who are charged with minor offenses to federal authorities.

Princeton Mayor Liz Lempert stood by the town’s status as a sanctuary for illegal immigrants on Monday, the Princeton Packet reports.

Princeton doesn’t surrender illegal immigrants who are charged with minor offenses to federal authorities, and the police department doesn’t assist in raids of roundups of illegal immigrants, according to the report.

The department does abide by a 2007 directive from the New Jersey Attorney General that says all law enforcement must notify federal authorities of offenses from drunken driving to more serious first-degree crimes, according to the report.
