Mercer County Collects Over 20 Pounds Of Prescription Drugs
The county collected unused and expired prescription medication last week during Prescription Drug Takeback Day.
MERCER COUNTY, NJ — Mercer County on Monday announced it collected nearly 20 pounds of unused and expired prescription medication during Saturday’s drug takeback drive.
In a media release, Sheriff Jack Kemler said that for four hours the County Sheriff’s Office collected a wide range of prescription drugs, ranging from blood pressure and heart medications to cholesterol pills and dangerous opioid painkillers.
The program was expanded to accept vape products as well.

After the event, the medications were disposed in an environmentally safe way at a regional DEA facility.

The drop-off program is held each spring and fall. It is conducted by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Mercer County administration, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
