Mercer Man Gets 12 Years For Crash That Killed Student: Reports

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A West Windsor Man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for causing a drunken-driving crash that killed a 20-year-old student from The College of New Jersey (TCNJ).

David Lamar, now 25, was sentenced on Monday for a crash he caused in 2018 that killed Michael Sot, reported NJ.com. The December 2018 drunken-driving crash also badly injured five other TCNJ students.

During the sentencing, around a dozen people gave emotional statements about the crash in which Sot was killed, MyCentralJersey.com reported. Sot was the designated driver for his Phi Kappa Psi fraternity brothers that night who were headed back to campus after a party.

“I really did not mean to hurt anybody - I am sorry for what I have done,” Lamar said, according to NJ.com’s coverage of the hearing. “To the Sot family, I am truly sorry…I really do wish it was me instead of him.”

Sot was driving a 2007 Dodge Charger when his vehicle was struck at 2 a.m. along Pennington Road in Ewing by a car driven by Lamar. Lamar had been intoxicated at a local bar while driving, he crossed the center line and collided head-on with Sot's vehicle.
