A New Jersey school student has been disciplined after a photo with a racist caption was posted on social media, according to reports.

The Snapchat photo shows Nottingham High School's gospel choir in Hamilton performing during a Black History Month assembly Monday, with the caption, "Slave auction, they work hard and need little rest."

Interim Superintendent Thomas Ficarra told nj.com the principal took disciplinary action over the "racially insensitive social media post," but he didn't identify the action.

“This needs to go viral about the racism that is going on in our schools,” an outraged parent, who asked for anonymity, told The Trentonian. “I have contacted the school, no one has returned my calls.”

Another parent took issue that the discipline was not strict enough, telling The Trentonian: “The white student was suspended for 1 day."

A secretary for the superintendent’s office told The Trentonian that the one-day suspension is not correct. The secretary declined to provide specific detail.
