Nassau Youth Hockey Program Opens Season At Showcase Tournament

Two teams had the lowest goals against averages in impressive performances.

Princeton, NJ -- Nassau hockey, the largest youth hockey program in the Greater Princeton area, kicked off the season by competing in the Eastern Junior Elite Prospects League (EJEPHL) showcase Aug. 26-28, the program said this week.

The Nassau Hockey (U-11) Pee Wee Diamond went 4-0 at games at Hollydell Ice Arena in New Jersey. It defeated Coney Island's Greater New York Stars, Brewster NY's Bulldogs, Long Island Arrows, and New Jersey's Pro-Tec Ducks.

The team boasted a hearty 40 goals for and 5 against, the lowest in the tournament thanks to the goaltending duo of Daniel Prokoshin and Nickolas (Nick) Chetti.

Nassau Hockey (U-10) Squirt Silver Futures Team went 3-1 against competition at Igloo Ice Arena in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey. It defeated the Greater New York Stars, Long Beach Lightning, and the New Jersey Titans.

The team scored an impressive 34 goals for and 11 against, the lowest in the tournament thanks to Blake Echternacht, who also recorded his first shutout of the season.

The only loss was a 7-5 setback at the hands of the Bayonne Rangers.

The Nassau Hockey Peewee (U-12) Futures Silver team played the Brewster Bulldogs, Greater New Haven Warriors, Rhode Island Jr. Blues and NJ Titans at Oaks Center Ice in Oaks, Pennsylvania.

The team had three players making their travel hockey debuts. The highlight of the weekend was an 11-2 win over the Titans.

Nassau Hockey (U-14) Bantam Silver Futures Team faced injuries, and was playing without a full lineup right off the bat. The team was unable to notch a win, but played hard throughout their appearance at the Revolution Ice Gardens in Warwick, PA.
