New Playground Equipment Unveiled At Princeton's Quarry Park

Maggie's Playground at Quarry Park received all new playground equipment, new seating benches and other improvements.

PRINCETON, NJ — Maggie's Playground at Quarry Park in Princeton officially reopened on Friday with all new playground equipment and new seating benches.

The update was done to replace the old equipment which was installed in 1999 and was nearing the end of its lifespan, as well no longer meeting several current playground safety standards, said Evan Moorhead, assistant director of the Princeton Recreation Department.

The park was closed in the fall of 2018 at the recommendation of the municipal insurance inspector following a routine inspection, Moorhead said.

As a result the recreation department began working to update the playground by also incorporating the public input.

Construction then began and hit some challenges due to the proximity of the trees and their root systems.

Wooden seating benches around the perimeter of the playground area were also replaced along with additional site work including: new playground mulch, power-wash and repair the pavers, re-stain the existing picnic table and sandbox and add new sand to the sandbox, Moorhead said.

The second phase of the project will include installing new swing sets later this year. The old swings that were located just above the fenced in playground location were also closed in the Fall of 2018.

A new water fountain with bottle filler will also be added in the spring once the weather is warm enough to have the water lines turned back on, Moorhead said.
