Nicholas Eugene Johnson, 82, Longtime Princeton Letter Carrier

Kingston resident passed away on Friday, Oct. 14

Nicholas Eugene Johnson, 82, of Kingston, passed away on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick with his loving family by his side.

Born in Jersey City, Nicholas was raised in Morristown, eventually moving to Kingston in 1958.

Predeceased by his parents, Edward and Anna Johnson, grandson Mohamed Bechir Loghmari and brother William Johnson of Bethlehem, Pa., he is survived by his wife of 57 years Gloria M. Johnson, two daughters and sons-in-law; Deborah and James Marion of Lawrenceville and Molly and Mohamed Loghmari of Broomall, Pa. and six grandchildren; Matthew, Jesse and Timothy Lawrence, Laura Marion and Khadijah and Ahmed Loghmari, brothers; Edward Johnson of Bremerton, WA, David and Clifford Johnson of Leicester, N.C. and sister Genevieve (Jane) Merchak of Orange, Calif.

Nicholas retired from the Princeton Post Office as a letter carrier after 30 years. Upon retirement, he worked part-time in the mail room at L’Oreal in Cranbury for ten years. He was honorably discharged from the US Marine Corp. after serving from 1946 to 1948.

Mr. Johnson was a communicant of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Princeton and served the church as a Eucharistic Minister and also as a hospital visitor at Princeton Medical Center. He was a member of the Masqueraders Square Dance Club, the Knights of Columbus, where he served one term as Grand Knight, the Kingston First Aid Squad and the Kingston Fire Department.
