Princeton No Kings Event Focuses On Early Voting, Not Protest

Indivisible Princeton will gather outside Monument Park on Saturday to help residents make a plan to vote early.

PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton’s next No Kings event is less about protest and more about the polls.

Indivisible Princeton will host a “No Kings: Vote Early” event on Saturday, from 10 to 11 a.m. on the sidewalks of Stockton Street in front of Monument Park, at Stockton Street and Bayard Lane.

Organizers describe the day as one of nonpartisan voter participation. The goal is to help residents make a plan to vote early and make sure every eligible voter understands their options for casting a ballot.

“Unlike previous No Kings actions, No Kings: Vote Early, is not purely a protest,” the event description states.

Organizers say the No Kings movement has drawn millions of people over the past year to reject the idea that power belongs to “kings, billionaires, or politicians who believe they are above the people and the law.” The next step, they say, is “turning people power into voter power.”

“We decide who represents us. We decide what comes next,” the event listing reads.

The local event was scheduled early in the day on purpose, so it won’t interfere with other get-out-the-vote efforts, according to organizers.

Princeton’s event is one of several planned in the region on Saturday. No Kings rallies are also set for Highland Park, Lambertville, Somerset, Monroe, Metuchen/Edison, Somerville, Piscataway, North Plainfield and New Providence.

Organizers say all No Kings events are committed to nonviolent action. Participants are expected to de-escalate any confrontations with people who disagree with them and to act lawfully.

Early voting in New Jersey runs from Oct. 24 through Nov. 1. Election Day is Nov. 3.
