Obituary: Carmelo Di Donato, 82

Former Princeton University groundskeeper died Sept. 19.

Carmelo DiDonato, 82, of Princeton, died Sept. 19 at his son's home in New Egypt.

Born in Insernia, Italy, he immigrated to the United States on Oct. 26, 1966.  He served in the Italian military.

He was employed as groundskeeper for Princeton University for 28 years before his retirement in 1995. He was a member of St. Paul's Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and landscaping, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Son of the late Nicolino and Antonietta DiDonato, husband of the late Antonietta (Altieri) DiDonato, brother of the late Peter DiDonato, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony DiDonato and Cristina Santilli, Franco and Elizabeth DiDonato; four brothers, Salvatore, Bruno Giovanni, Mario and Michael DiDonato; a sister, Maria Assunta DiDonato; seven grandchildren, Carmelo A., Adriano D. and Antonietta DiDonato, Serafina and Christian Desjarden, Bobby and Margaret Ecke; three great-grandchildren, Briana, Thomas and Audrey.

The funeral was held Sept. 22 at the Mather-Hodge Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Paul's Church. Entombment was held in Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick.
