Obituary: Helen J. Evatt, 92

Longtime Princeton resident died Sept. 21.

Helen J. Evatt, 92, died Sept. 21 at Buckingham Place, South Brunswick.

Born in East Orange, she was the daughter of Mark K. and May (Rinehart) Jones.

A longtime resident of Princeton, she graduated from Westminster Choir College in 1942 with a bachelor of music degree.  She was a soloist at the Second Presbyterian Church from 1942 and became a member of the Nassau Presbyterian Church in 1965 when the two churches combined.

She was a manager of the interview department of Opinion Research Corporation from 1942-1955.

Wife of Franks G. Evatt, she and her husband were owners and managers of the Peacock Inn from 1955-1965. A lifetime member of the Present Day Club from 1959, she was also manager from 1966 to 1988.

She was a former regent of the Princeton chapter of the DAR and member from 1966.

She was a member of the Princeton Chamber of Commerce and Soroptimists International.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-lawn, Andrew H. and Jean J. Evatt of Springfield, and her grandson, Andrew Mark Charles Evatt of Cleveland, Ohio.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at the Nassau Presbyterian Church. Burial took place in the Trinity All Saints Cemetery, Princeton.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, Princeton.
