Over 12K Without Power, Roads Closed In Mercer County Thursday

Power outages remain in the county in the wake of a storm that shut down two Mercer County towns on Wednesday.

Over 12,000 people remained without power and streets remained closed for downed trees and power lines in the wake of a devastating storm that shut down two Mercer County towns on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Princeton and West Windsor were completely shut down, as Princeton police said every travel route was compromised, and West Windsor police called conditions "horrible" and "ludicrous." Read more here: Nor'easter Virtually Shuts Down Princeton, Mercer County Towns

"Numerous power outages, lines and trees down along with road closures throughout town," West Windsor police said in an early morning alert. "Delay your travel if possible."

They later released a list of roads that were closed, saying that list was "fluid and could change by the minute."

Princeton University delayed opening until 10 a.m. on Thursday. Classes scheduled to begin before that time will not be held. University officials are monitoring conditions. University crews have cleared most roads and walkways, but students should take care when walking on campus due to some remaining slippery surfaces and downed branches.

According to the university's website:

  • The Frist Campus Center is open, as are residential dining halls.
  • TigerTransit buses are running on a limited schedule.
  • Campus libraries will open at 10 a.m.
  • Athletic and campus recreation facilities are closed until 10 a.m.

Offices on Rider's Lawrenceville and Princeton campuses will open at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, according to the university's website. Classes beginning at 8 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. will not be held. Classes that begin at 9:45 a.m. or later will be held as scheduled.

Princeton saw 17.8 inches of snow during Wednesday's storm, according to the National Weather Service. Below is the list of snow totals in Mercer County:
