The Princeton Democratic Municipal Committee (PDMC) represents the Democratic Party in our community. The recent allegations against United States Senator Robert Menendez are extremely troubling, and we join the many New Jersey Democratic officials and members of the Senate who have called upon Senator Menendez to resign his seat. While the presumption of innocence is central to our system of justice, our state and our country need a representative who is focused on solving the problems that affect us all without the distraction of what looks to be a prolonged legal battle. The Senator claims he is a fighter and will be exonerated. That may prove to be true. But the citizens of New Jersey deserve a full-time fighter for their issues – one who has the confidence and trust of both the people and his or her colleagues.
Senator Menendez has had a long and distinguished career. If he is intent on fully defending himself then he should devote all his energies to that effort and step aside in favor of someone who can put the needs of the state and the country first.
