Possible Meteorite Strikes Mercer County Home: Police

A metallic object struck a home in Hopewell and police believe it could be related to the Meteor shower Eta Aquariids

MERCER COUNTY, NJ – A metallic object, believed to be a meteorite struck a home in Hopewell Township on Monday afternoon, Hopewell Police said.

The object struck the ranch-style home on Old Washington Crossing Pennington Road around 1 p.m. on Monday. Although the home was occupied at the time, no injuries were reported, police said.

The object, which is approximately 4"x 6" is oblong in shape and appears metallic. It hit the roof, the ceiling and then fell on the hardwood floor before coming to a rest, police said.

Hopewell Police said they have contacted several other agencies for assistance in identifying the object and safeguarding the residents and the object.

“This may be related to a current Meteor shower called the Eta Aquariids,” the police department said.
