Princeton Among Top 10 in State in Latest U.S. News Rankings
Princeton was ranked seventh in the state and 143rd nationally.

The high standard of excellence continues at Princeton High School in the eyes of U.S. News and World Report.
Princeton climbed to No. 7 on the magazine’s list of the Best High Schools in New Jersey. It ranked 10th last year, and 10th in 2012. It was unranked in 2013.
U.S. News and World Report evaluated data on 29,070 public high schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Some schools were eliminated from consideration because they were too small, bringing the total national number to 19,753.

Schools were ranked nationally in a three-step process. First, U.S. News and World Report evaluated how students performed compared to what is expected of students in the state.
The next step compared disadvantaged students at each school with those in other schools across the state. About 10 percent of Princeton’s students are economically disadvantaged, and 36 percent of the total student body is classified as minority.

The final criteria was college readiness, using Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate test data as the benchmarks for success, depending on which program was largest at the school.
Schools were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals based on their performances.
Princeton earned a gold medal and ranked 143rd nationally.
Princeton was above average in New Jersey in college readiness, with a 74.1 index. About 78 percent of students took Advanced Placement testing, and 73 percent passed.
About 98 percent was proficient in the language portion of testing, and 94 percent was proficient in mathematics.
Princeton’s student to teacher ratio of 12:1 is about average in the state. The school has a total of 1,447 students and 120 teachers.

The top school in New Jersey was Biotechnology High School in Freehold, which was ranked number 19 nationally. High Technology High School in the Lincroft section of Middletown and Bergen County Technical High School in Teterboro round out the top three.
