PRINCETON, NJ — A search for a new superintendent begins after the Princeton Public Schools Board of Education accepted Steve Cochrane's retirement at its Tuesday meeting.

Cochrane announced his retirement to parents on Monday. His last day will be June 30.

"The Board plans to conduct an inclusive and comprehensive search for Supt. Cochrane's successor and is committed to ensuring that PPS will continue to move forward in fulfilling its mission, which is centered around equity and preparing students for lives of joy and purpose," said Susan McGreevy, administrative assistant to the Superintendent.

Cochrane had served as Princeton Superintendent for the past six years. His retirement is linked to his decision to move closer to his mom who is now in her 90s and living on her own in his hometown of Seattle.

"We will miss Steve greatly. His contributions are many and have been important," said Board President Beth Behrend. "Over the next four months and beyond, the Board will continue to chart a course for PPS that is full steam ahead, with all hands on deck, towards achieving our strategic goals: wellness and balance, every child known, closing the achievement gap, innovative teaching and and learning, and connection and care for our students."
