Princeton Billionaire Makes Elite Forbes List

Duncan MacMillan of Princeton is among 8 billionaires living in New Jersey, according to Forbes' 33rd annual ranking.

PRINCETON, NJ — Duncan MacMillan of Princeton is among eight billionaires living in New Jersey, according to Forbes' 33rd annual ranking of the world's billionaires released Tuesday.

MacMillan, who has a net worth of $1.1 billion, ranks at No. 7 in New Jersey and no. 1,941 out of the 2,153 billionaires in the world.

The 81-year-old married father of two made his own wealth. His financial success began in 1981 when he co-founded financial data and media company Bloomberg LP with Mike Bloomberg, Thomas Secunda and Charles Zegar, according to Forbes.

MacMillan helped Bloomberg with what was then called Innovative Market Systems and is credited with designing many of Bloomberg LP's computer systems, according to Forbes.

MacMillan still works Bloomberg LP's engineering department which to date has revenues estimated at $9.6 billion and 19,000 global employees.

The top New Jersey billionaire was John Overdeck of Millburn who has a net worth of $6.1 billion. While Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, who is worth about $131 billion, topped the world list for the second year in a row, followed by software magnate and philanthropist Bill Gates ($96.5 billion) and Berkshire Hathaway Chairman and CEO Warren Buffett ($82.5 billion).
