Before the election, Behrend told Patch she was committed to finding a new superintendent for the school district. She said she was running again because “I believe that effective, equitable public education is the cornerstone of our democracy - and that my experience and proven track record of making progress for our students during two years of leadership is what the Board needs during the pandemic and for the challenges ahead.”

Tuck-Ponder has held various offices over the past 30 years. She told Patch she was running again to provide children with the best education possible.

“I am running for re-election to the Princeton Board of Education because of my commitment to equity in Princeton Public Schools,” she said.

“For the past three years, I have used my voice and my vote on the Board of Education to highlight and address issues of inequity in our schools,” said Tuck-Ponder.

A newcomer, Durban believed her experience in community service made her an ideal candidate for board member. “The single most important task for the board to accomplish now is hiring an experienced superintendent with strong management skills and a demonstrated record of fostering the principles of equity and inclusion for all our children and within all our schools,” she said.

All three were elected for three-year terms.

The swearing-in ceremony will be virtual and is open to the public.

Also on the agenda is a vote to change the rate of pay for substitute custodians from $12.00 per hour to $15.00 per hour.
