Princeton Coronavirus Update: 4 Positive Cases, 4 Pending Tests

Princeton also launched a new website dedicated to new coronavirus (COVID-19) news.

PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton officials are posting daily updates on the new coronavirus and have also launched a new website dedicated to COVID-19 news.

The website princetoncovid.org is a community collaboration of Princeton Public Library, the Municipality of Princeton and Princeton Public Schools.

As of 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday Princeton Health Officer Jeffrey Grosser released the following update:

  • Princeton has 4 positive laboratory confirmed coronavirus cases (See Related: Princeton Locals Test Positive For Coronavirus)
  • Princeton has 7 negative laboratory confirmed coronavirus cases
  • Princeton has 4 pending coronavirus tests (awaiting results)
  • 6 persons are currently under investigation due to travel or close contact to a confirmed case (not symptomatic), all are quarantined
  • 3 persons are isolated due to being symptomatic and did not receive testing
  • 20 persons under investigation have been cleared from quarantine or monitoring (this number includes 7 that were not tested from the party, and were asymptomatic)
  • The Health Department also released local guidance on how retail food establishments should be

"Please remember that the number of confirmed cases will continue to rise exponentially as more people get tested and gain access to testing throughout our region. This is expected and is not an indicator that social distancing does not work. Social distancing works but it has only been in effect for three days," Grosser said.

Childcare centers and day cares are still in operation.

  • Senior living sites, need to reduce or end non-essential visitation and increase health screening of worker and essential visitors
  • Food trucks have been cleared for operation. Criteria is: They must be from an existing Princeton business and they have provided instruction from the Princeton Health Dept. on what they should be doing to keep residents safe, but fed.
  • Released local guidance on how retail food establishments should be operating.

Princeton Police Chief Nicholas Sutter is also asking residents not to call 911 and instead call the non-emergency police department phone line at 609-921-2100 when reporting gatherings of 50 or more persons and other such Covid-19 curfew and social distancing infractions.

15 new positive cases of the new coronavirus were reported in Mercer County on Wednesday. Gov. Phil Murphy announced that the state had 162 new positive tests on Wednesday, raising the total number of cases to 427. There were also two more deaths brings the death total to five.
