Princeton Elementary Schools Begin Monday. Here’s What To Expect

From enhanced cleaning protocols to teachers in PPE, here's what students and staff can expect once they're back to school buildings.

PRINCETON, NJ — Students from pre-K, kindergarten and first grade who opted for the hybrid track will return to Princeton schools on Oct. 5 at 8:30 a.m.

Last week Princeton Public School administrators informed Patch that they were planning to bring back students earlier than scheduled.

  • On Oct. 5 Pre-K, Kindergarten, and Grade 1 will return to elementary schools - hybrid students, Cohorts A and B on different days.
  • The morning learning sessions at elementary school will end at 12:30 p.m., except on Wednesday when all students will be remote.
  • School day will end at 1 p.m. for all students, but will continue remotely until 3 p.m. on the other four days.
  • Social distancing rules are mandatory as are masks, handwashing, daily screening and temperature checks.
  • All teachers will receive personal protective equipment.
  • Enhanced cleaning protocols to be followed in every building. High-touch surfaces, including desks, door handles and bathrooms to be thoroughly cleaned.
  • Plexiglass dividers have been placed in common areas like main offices, entrances and cafeterias.
  • Bathrooms have been modified to meet social distancing requirements.
  • Hand blowers have been replaced with "no touch" paper towel dispensers and toilets modified to touchless flushing.
  • Only one student at a time will be allowed in bathrooms at elementary schools.
  • Each classroom will have a sanitizer spray for use on high-touch areas. Gallon-size pump containers of gel sanitizer will be in each classroom for hand sanitizing.

An overwhelming number of parents in the school district had voted for in-person classes to resume, Superintendent Barry Galasso told Patch a few weeks ago.

Meanwhile, students from second through fifth-grade will be back to schools on Oct. 12. And on Oct. 19, students will return to the middle school and to Princeton High School.
