Princeton Girl Scout Pictured On Cookie Boxes

Madeleine Freundlich, an ambassador with the Girl Scouts, will be featured on the S'mores cookie boxes.

PRINCETON, NJ — The Girl Scout Cookie season for 2020 officially begins on Thursday and locals stocking up on the delicious cookies may notice a familiar face on the box. Princeton Girl Scout Madeleine Freundlich was among five girls from the Girl Scouts of Central and Southern New Jersey to be selected to appear on the new packaging.

Freundlich, a senior at Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart in Princeton, will be featured on the S’mores cookie box.

"I am definitely so excited for all my friends and family to see it," Freundlich said of the box.

Freundlich has been serving in the Girl Scouts for the past 13 years. Even when she wasn’t quite old enough to officially join she would tag along with her sister at the age of 3 to go to her Daisy meetings.

Now she serves as an ambassador, which is the highest level in Girl Scouts where she helps mentor younger scouts.

"I tend to a lot of younger girls and go to events and badge workshops," Freundlich said. "I talk to them and pass on my skills."

Freundlich is currently working on completing her Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouts. But her cookie sale funds will be used to help get her a lifetime membership with the Girl Scouts.

"I love being a Girl Scout," Freundlich said. "It is not stereotypical all cookies and badges, there are so many amazing opportunities that I never thought of doing which is beauty of it."

Freundlich noted how she was able to travel to Oregon and attend a NASA program to learn about girls in astronomy.

She believes the Girl Scouts has set her up for a successful future. As a 12th grader she wants to study philosophy and political science in college.

"Most definitely the great thing about Girl Scouts is that it exposes you to a ton of new opportunities and creates a foundation of curiosity and that leverages you to an advantage," Freundlich said.
