Princeton High Field Hockey off to 3-1 Start

Coach Serverson is excited about how her young team is playing.

Even after the team suffered its first loss on a wet and miserable Thursday at Allentown, it wasn't hard for Heather Serverson to keep things in perspective.

"Consdering how young we are, 3-1 is a great start," said Serverson, coach of the Princeton High field hockey team.

Princeton starts three freshmen and two sophomores.

"We've been playing really well," Serverson said.

The team tried to achieve a 4-0 on Sept. 15, but the whole day was just out of whack. The team bus arrived late. The team played the game in a steady rain, which made the grass field very slippery.

"It was just a bad day," Serverson said of the 1-0 loss.

Fortunately, the other three days Princeton played worked out better, including both the weather and results.

Princeton opened the season with a 1-0 win against Nottingham on Sept. 9.

Emma Crain, assisted by Mary Campbell McDonald, scored the lone goal of the match in the second half.

Princeton scored twice in each half on the way to a 4-0 win over Hamilton on Sept. 10.

Emilia Lopez scored two goals for Princeton. Viven Bazarko and Crain added goals. Crain, Cosima Klatte and Stephanie Klockenbrink added assists.

Princeton picked up its third win with a 4-0 victory over Lawrence on Sept. 13.

Sydney Watts, Campbell-McDonald and Lucy Herring scored for Princeton. Vivien Bazarko had an assist. Tobi Afron made four saves to record the shutout in goal.

"We have definitely been playing well," Serverson said. "The defense has been there. We have been passing the ball well. We move the ball up and down the field."
