Princeton High School 10th Grader Killed By Train

"We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of our 10th grade students," the school said in a letter to students and parents.

PRINCETON, NJ -- A 10th-grade Princeton High School student has been identified as the person hit and killed by an Amtrak train Thursday. Princeton Police confirmed the person killed was a local 15-year-old, according to NJ.com, and school officials communicated the news of the loss in a letter to parents.

"We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of our 10th grade students. We have shared this news with the students this morning in first period class and have set up counseling stations to support both students and staff. Our thoughts are with the student's family, friends, and everyone affected by this tragic loss," the letter said.

The student has not been identified. He was killed Princeton Junction at about 3 p.m.

According to the letter, the school had counselors and other trained professionals from throughout the school, district, and community the Princeton High School on Friday to offer support to students and staff.

"We encourage parents to contact school counselors and/or community resources if you feel your child could use additional support," the letter said.
