Princeton High Student Wins 2022 College-Sponsored Merit Scholarship

The student will be awarded between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.

PRINCETON, NJ — A Princeton High School student has earned the prestigious college-sponsored merit scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Competition for 2022, the organization announced.

Caroline J. Xie of Cranbury won the National Merit Rutgers University Scholarship. Xie plans to study pharmacy next fall.

Xie is among more than 2,600 winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

Officials at each of the sponsored colleges selected their winners from among the finalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution.

The selected students are awarded between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

High school juniors entered the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program when they took the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

An additional group of Scholars will be announced in July, bringing the total number of college-sponsored Merit Scholarship recipients in this year’s competition to about 4,000.
