Princeton Medical Center Among Top 10 Hospitals In New Jersey

U.S. News and World Report has released its 2018-19 rankings of best hospitals in the country.

Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center in Plainsboro has been named among the top 10 hospitals in New Jersey by U.S. News and World Report.

U.S. News & World Report has released its rankings of the best hospitals in America for 2018-19, evaluating more than 4,500 hospitals in the country across 16 specialties and nine procedures and conditions. U.S. News also ranked the best hospitals in America by region.

Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center was ranked 10th in New Jersey, tied with five other hospitals. Morristown Medical Center topped the list of hospitals in New Jersey.

Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center was ranked as “high performing” in three adult procedures and conditions, including heart failure, hip replacement and knee replacement.

U.S News explains that a “high performing” rating means a hospital was not nationally ranked but was significantly better than average in a specialty.

Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center wasn’t nationally ranked in any category. It was classified as “average” for abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery and lung cancer surgery. U.S. News uses two methodologies, one for procedures and conditions ratings and another for specialty rankings. The rankings are produced by U.S. News with research organization, RTI International. U.S. News says its methodologies in most areas of care are based largely or entirely on objective measures like risk-adjusted survival and readmission rates, volume, patient experience, patient safety and quality of nursing.
