Princeton Men's, Women's Basketball Teams Compete In Inaugural Ivy League Tournaments This Weekend
The tournaments take place at the historic Palestra in Philadelphia.

PRINCETON, NJ — If this happened last year, the Princeton University men’s basketball team would already be in the NCAA Tournament, and the women’s team’s season would be over. Instead, the men have two more hurdles to clear, and the women still have a shot.
The inaugural Ivy League men’s and women’s basketball tournaments take place this weekend in Philadelphia.
The Princeton men (20-6 overall, 14-0 in conference play) are the No. 1 seed and play Penn (13-14, 6-8) in the semifinals at the historic Palestra in Philadelphia, 1:30 p.m. No. 2 Harvard (18-9, 10-4) faces No. 3 Yale (17-10, 9-5) in the second semifinal at 4:30 p.m.

The winners meet in the championship game at the Palestra at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The winners of each tournament will advance to the NCAA Tournament. The Ivy League historically has only received one bid to the tournament, meaning that if Princeton fails to win the conference tournament, it likely won’t compete in the NCAA Tournament. NCAA Tournament selections will be announced at 6 p.m. Sunday evening, on CBS.

The Ivy League is the last Division I college basketball conference to institute a conference tournament. The four-team format was approved last year in an effort to enhance the overall experience of the league’s basketball players and shorten the regular season to accommodate the strict time demands of each university’s student athletes, according to espn.com.
