PRINCETON, NJ — Housing Initiatives of Princeton has received a second consecutive grant from Northfield Bank Foundation to sustain and expand its transitional housing program for families facing homelessness or housing insecurity in Mercer County.

The nonprofit provides transitional housing for families who are on waiting lists for affordable housing or who do not yet financially qualify for it. Residents may stay for up to two years, paying 30 percent of their income in rent while receiving weekly case management and a range of personalized wraparound services.

According to HIP, every family that completes the program becomes financially qualified for permanent affordable housing and graduates into a home of their own.

The program currently serves more than 30 adults and children per year in Mercer County. HIP also operates an Eviction Prevention Program that helps an additional 360 adults and children annually remain stably housed.

The Northfield Bank Foundation grant will help HIP continue and grow both its transitional housing services and the comprehensive support it offers families working toward long-term stability.
