Princeton Opens COVID-19 Vaccine Registration Portal

Those who register will eventually be contacted to set up their appointments, when they become eligible.

PRINCETON, NJ – On Tuesday evening, Princeton Township opened its own COVID-19 vaccine registration portal. This came hours after New Jersey opened the state-wide registration portal.

Princeton Officials said that anyone can register on the portal and be added to the waiting list for receiving the vaccine. One does not need to be a resident of Princeton to do so.

Fredrick Williams, spokesperson for the Municipality of Princeton said the township created the waitlist to build a database of people who will be eligible for the vaccine during the upcoming phases.

"Such a database allows us to better serve people by getting more of them vaccinated. Especially the elderly and those with underlying health issues in our vicinity, who may not be able to travel to a mega clinic," said Williams.

"It will also help to get the vaccine to more people overall who want to receive it during the 1b and 1c phases of the rollout."

People who pre-register will eventually be contacted to set up their appointments, when they become eligible to receive the vaccine.

Officials said that people who wish to get their vaccine at the state-run ‘mega sites’ or clinics will still be required to register at the state-run registration portal.

"People signing up should understand that our list is separate from the state’s pre-registration list, and they should still sign up for the state list to be eligible for a vaccine from a state run clinic," clarified Williams.

"Doing so allows them to take the first available appointment, here in Princeton or elsewhere at a state run clinic."

Princeton’s waitlist registration portal is for anyone who wants the vaccine and who qualifies for it in Phase 1A and 1B. As the state moves from one phase to another, the list will change to accommodate the eligible groups.

"The focus is on having a ready database as we move from one phase to another," said Williams.

The state-run portal allows NJ residents to pre-register for the vaccine.

Currently, the state is vaccinating healthcare workers in Phase 1 A. The New Jersey Department of Health will determine when clinics can transition to 1B vaccinations.
