Princeton Seventh Grader Wins Literary Prize
Angelina Chen won an award for her English class story "Minimum Wage."

PRINCETON, NJ — A seventh grader at John Witherspoon Middle School has been recognized for her fiction writing.
Angelina Chen has been named a recipient of the Gold Key award in the Flash Fiction category by the 2017 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for the Northeast Region, the Princeton Public School District announced on Monday.
Her story, "Minimum Wage," is about a teenage girl working at an ice cream shop. It began as an assignment in English teacher Keith McEvoy’s class.

“Angelina is an exceptional student and an amiable young woman,” McEvoy said. “I can think of few students who are more deserving of this special recognition.”
It was judged on its originality, the technical skill demonstrated in the writing, and the emergence of a personal vision or voice.
