Princeton University Football Team Holds off Penn in Key Ivy League Victory

The Tigers defeated the Quakers thanks in part to three field goals and strong defense.

Nolan Bieck’s 20-yard field goal was his third of the day and provided some cushion in the Princeton University football team’s 22-17 win over Pennsylvania, according to espn.com.

Bieck gave the Tigers a 6-0 lead with field goals of 45 and 21 yards, and Quinn Epperly added to that total with a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

An Epperly 1-yard touchdown pass to Connor Kelley midway through the second quarter gave Princeton a 19-7 lead.

However, the Quakers’ defense kept the Tigers off the board for the rest of the first half and the third quarter while Penn cut the lead to two points, thanks in part to a one-handed touchdown catch Justin Watson.

Bieck’s final field goal came with 10 minutes, 15 seconds left in the game.

In the second half of the game, Princeton forced three turnovers, including a Matt Arends interception, according to goprincetontigers.com.

Andrew Frisby’s fourth down tackle at the Princeton 22 with just over five minutes left in the game helped secure the win.

Princeton improved to 5-3 overall, 4-1 in Ivy League play. The win helped the Tigers remain in a second-place with Yale (7-1, 4-1) and Dartmouth (6-2, 4-1).

Princeton visits Yale next week and hosts Dartmouth in the season finale Nov. 22.
