Princeton University Students Must Read 'Consent Pledge' Before Partying At On-Campus Eating Clubs
The pledge is new, and modeled after a similar pledge at Stanford University, according to published reports.

Princeton, NJ -- Students at Princeton University are now required to read a consent pledge before entering two on-campus eating clubs for parties, according to published reports.
Students began the initiative independent of the university, the Princeton Packet reports. Before entering parties at either the Charter Club or the Cap and Gown Club, students are required to read the pledge out loud.
According to the report, the statement on the pledge reads: “Consent is asking for and receiving affirmation before and while engaging in anyone’s personal space or belongings, and can be revoked at any time.”

The idea comes from a similar consent pledge in place at Stanford University, according to motto.time.com.
The Princeton pledge wasn’t the result of any specific incident at the university, according to the Daily Princetonian. However, some students did tell the student newspaper they were concerned the pledge didn’t reference sexual activity specifically, and modifications were needed.
