Princeton Youth Hockey Team Wins Tournament Title In Hershey

The tournament took place over the weekend.

Princeton, NJ -- The Princeton Youth Hockey Association (PYHA) 8-U B team won the Halloween Howl Ice Hockey tournament in Hershey, PA, over the weekend.

The Princeton Tigers faced the hometown Hershey Jr. Bears in the first round, eking out a 6-5 win. Next up was the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, who fell to the Tigers, 11-5. The Tigers then handily defeated the Frederick Freeze, 14-0.

The semifinal game against the Long Island Royals went into overtime, with the Tigers scoring the winning goal 1 minute, 36 seconds into overtime to seal the 7-6 win.

The championship game was another close contest, with the Tigers prevailing over the Warwick Wildcats 10-9.

“The weekend held a lot of hockey, a lot of goals, and a lot of fun,” according to the hockey association. “We’re pretty sure a lot of candy was involved, too.”

Princeton Youth Hockey Association (PYHA) is a member of USA Hockey and the New Jersey Youth Hockey League. PYHA is a Tier II travel hockey program fielding teams from Mite (U-8) through Midget (U-18), in addition to a learn-to-play-hockey program called Tiger Cubs that is designed for players between the ages of 4 and 7. PYHA is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization that calls historic Baker Rink at Princeton University its home rink.
