Princeton's Acorn Glen Reports 1st Coronavirus Death

Eight patients at Acorn Glen Assisted Living Facility have also tested positive for the coronavirus.

PRINCETON, NJ — Acorn Glen Assisted Living Facility in Princeton announced its first death on Sunday from the new coronavirus, Princeton officials said.

The death of the woman, who was in her 70s, marks the sixth coronavirus death in Princeton, according to Princeton Health Officer Jeffrey C. Grosser.

"Princeton extends our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the patient, as well as all who have been affected by this outbreak. We continue to strongly recommend that all Princeton residents, workers, students and visitors take the necessary precautions to protect themselves against novel coronavirus," Grosser said.

Additionally eight other patients at Acorn Glen have tested positive and are being isolated in the facility. Of those eight people, three people have recovered, Grosser said.

"We understand the vulnerability of patients at these types of facilities and the Princeton Health Department has been conducting weekly conference calls with long-term care centers in Princeton to ensure they are meeting New Jersey Department of Health guidelines on controlling outbreaks of COVID-19. Acorn Glen has been providing daily updates to PHD and the New Jersey Department of Health," said Grosser.

As of Sunday, Princeton has 108 total confirmed coronavirus cases. The Princeton Health Department is currently monitoring 36 active cases that are in isolation, 45 cases have recovered.
