Princeton's Oldest Indian Restaurant Closing
Masala Grill Restaurant will close next week.

Princeton, NJ -- Princeton’s oldest Indian restaurant is closing.
Masala Grill Restaurant at 19 Chambers Street is closing, according to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
“For over 20 years I've loved being part of the Princeton community,” owner Suchitra Patel wrote in the post. “It's with a heavy heart that we are forced to leave our home at 19 Chambers St. While I am sad that this is how it will come to an end, I am beyond thankful to this community for giving us a home for over two decades.”

The restaurant is closing because rent for the building was raised too high for Patel to pay, according to Planet Princeton. She was given a month to close, and the last day the restaurant will be open is Friday, May 13.
An Open House will be held on May 14 and 15, 6 p.m.-8 p.m. each night, according to the report.

“To the friends I will miss dropping by and having a chat with, please don't be a stranger,” Patel said in the post. “I very much value your friendship and hope it will continue even if our meeting spot may be gone.”
The catering and take-out business will continue, and orders can be made by calling 609-921-0500 or emailing masalagrill@msn.com.
“We will be working with other great Indian restaurants in the area so we can always help with where to go to get a great Indian meal,” Patel said. “We are also exploring bringing Masala Grill to more festivals and local events. If you would like to know more, sign up for updates at mgprinceton.com or inside. I will also be updating the website with recipes and other Indian cooking tips.
“Thank you so much for everything. Please, please keep in touch! You can find me on Facebook under Suchitra Patel and I will continue to keep the Masala Grill website & Facebook up and will be adding info on where we will be, recipes, and more. Thank you again for your loyalty and friendship during these years.”
