Public Hearing On Princeton's Tentative School Budget Tuesday

The public will have a chance to voice their opinion on the 2019-20 school budget on Tuesday​ during the Princeton BOE meeting.

PRINCETON, NJ — The public will have a chance to voice their opinion on the 2019-20 school budget on Tuesday during the Princeton Board of Education meeting.

A budget presentation and a public hearing will be held at 7:30 p.m. on May 7 to discuss the tentative school year budget.

The board is proposing a roughly $100 million total budget, which includes special revenue and debt services. A total of $83.9 million would be raised by taxes.

Additionally, the board plans to exceed the 2 percent general fund local tax levy cap increase due to increases on premiums for health insurance.

"The Board of Education has determined that $473,021 is needed in health insurance adjustments to balance the general fund for the 2019-20 budget in order to maintain existing programs, implement mandated programs and remain in alignment with the district's goals and objectives for the upcoming school year," the BOE stated in the final budget proposal.

The board may vote to finalize the budget following the hearing.

The total budget for the 2018-19 school year was roughly $98 million.
