Ribbon Cutting at Princeton Academy Celebrates Completion of Capital Campaign Phase One

Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart, on Sept. 6, celebrated the completion of Phase One of the School’s $11 million renovation with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Student Council President, Steven Kopits, led the ceremony together with Founding Headmaster, Olen Kalkus and Board of Trustees Chair, Chris Schade.

Following a year of renovation, students and faculty can now take advantage of new state-of-the-art science and prep labs, 10 new classrooms, a Junior Kindergarten/Kindergarten suite, and larger student common areas.  

“Princeton Academy was founded 15 years ago with a vision of combining strong core values with an understanding of boys' development. We created an ideal school where boys would engage in learning to grow and thrive in their development as young gentlemen,” remarked Kalkus. “We have developed a program and faculty that provides that environment and now we have the facilities to support that vision.”

Construction on the more than 80,000-square-foot academic facilities began in earnest last summer when a large portion of the interior was gutted and geothermal wells were installed on the School’s grounds to provide an alternative source of energy. With Phase One complete, the remaining work on Phase Two will include a new music wing (featuring both instrumental and choral music rooms and practice rooms), a new infirmary, a larger space for the visual arts and a technology center. The Phase Two renovation is expected to be completed later this fall.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide our students and faculty with the infrastructure appropriate for 21st century learning,” added Schade. “We remain committed to our goal to provide our students with an environment that best promotes strong values combined with educational and athletic excellence.”

All of the building and renovation projects will reinforce Princeton Academy’s commitment to environmentally responsible and sustainable designs. In addition to the new geothermal heating and cooling system, the project includes features such as skylights for improved natural light and state-of-the-art insulation and energy efficient electrical fixtures. When combined with plans to add on-site solar energy, these features will create an opportunity to dramatically reduce the School’s energy consumption requirements.

At the ribbon cutting ceremony, Schade emphasized that it was a proud day for the School. “The Board of Trustees believed it was essential to invest in the future and by year’s end, virtually all of the academic spaces on our beautiful campus will be transformed, ” he added.
