Spring Into Sports: Where To Sign Up And Play In Princeton

Local leagues and programs across Princeton are offering opportunities for all ages to get out and play this season.

PRINCETON, NJ — With warmer days ahead, it’s a great time to get outside and stay active. Around Princeton, many local leagues and programs are opening registration for the season. To help you get started, we’ve gathered a few resources where you can find more details and sign up — consider this a starting point as you explore what’s available in the community.

Parks, Recreation & Community Programs

Local parks departments and community organizations often offer seasonal leagues, classes and recreation programs for residents of all ages.

Girls Flag Football Clinics

Princeton Parks and Recreation will offer a girls flag football clinic series this spring for students in grades 4 through 8, with six sessions running Mondays and Wednesdays from May 4 through May 20 at Hilltop Park. Sessions run from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The program covers throwing, catching, handoffs, flag pulling, and pass rushing, along with rules, positions, and basic offensive and defensive concepts. Each session concludes with age-based scrimmages.

Registration is open under "2026 Spring Youth Sports Programs." The fee is $90 for Princeton residents and $120 for non-residents for all six sessions. Financial aid is available to Princeton residents; contact Chris Petrucelli for information.

Session dates: May 4, 6, 11, 13, 18, and 20.

Spring Junior Golf Program

The program runs four Thursdays — April 9, 16, 23, and 30 — from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Springdale Golf Club, 1895 Clubhouse Drive.

Open to ages 7 to 16, the program covers all aspects of the game using video and Trackman technology, on-course coaching, equipment analysis, and practice drills. Competition and skills challenges are also included. Clubs are available for participants who need them; note that during registration.

The program is led by Jason Barry, Director of Instruction at Springdale Golf Club, former Head Coach of the Rider University Golf Team, and a multiple-time Golf Digest Best Young Teacher honoree.

Fees are $275 for Princeton residents and $305 for non-residents for all four sessions. Golfers will be grouped by skill level.

Little Rookies Baseball

The program runs six Sundays from May 3 through June 14 — no class May 24 — from noon to 1 p.m. at Grover Park Field #1, 301 N. Harrison St.

Open to ages 2 to 5, the program covers basic baseball fundamentals through skills drills and age-appropriate games in a non-competitive, skill-based setting. Classes are led by Amazing Athletes, a multi-sport franchise with coaches trained to work with young children.

Fees are $132 for Princeton residents and $162 for non-residents for all six sessions.

Volleyball Clinic

Princeton Parks and Recreation is offering a four-session girls volleyball clinic for grades 4 through 8, held Mondays and Wednesdays April 6, 8, 13, and 15 at the Princeton High School gym.

Two skill-level sessions are available. The beginner class runs 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. and focuses on foundational skills with repetition and modified gameplay. The intermediate class runs 5:45 to 7 p.m. and moves at a faster pace with full gameplay; intermediate participants should be able to hit the ball over the net or serve into a rally.

Clinics are led by Patty Manhart, Princeton High School varsity girls volleyball coach, who started the PHS program in 2013. The team has since won five league championships and the Group 3 State Championship and BCSL County Tournament in each of the past three seasons.

Fees are $60 for residents and $90 for non-residents for all four sessions.

Chair Fitness

Princeton Parks and Recreation's Chair Fitness program runs six weeks — Tuesdays and Thursdays from April 7 through May 14 — from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. at the Community Room at Community Park Pool.

Open to adults 18 and older, the class covers balance, coordination, cardio, flexibility, muscular strength, and relaxation. All fitness levels are welcome.

Classes are led by Suzette Schmidt, an ACE-certified personal trainer specializing in active adult fitness, and a certified Arthritis Foundation Leader, AEA Water Fitness instructor, and Brain Trainer.

Fees are $53 for Princeton residents and $83 for non-residents for all six weeks.

Zumba Classes

Zumba class runs five Wednesdays — April 29, May 7, May 14, May 28, and June 10 (no class May 20 or June 3) — from 7 to 8 p.m. at Johnson Park Elementary School Gym, 285 Rosedale Road.

Open to adults 18 and older, the Latin-based dance fitness class mixes high- and low-intensity moves. No dance experience required. Classes are led by instructor Terri Huggins.

Fees are $35 for Princeton residents and $65 for non-residents for all five classes.

Princeton Area Masters

The Princeton Area Masters (PAM) Spring Swim Session runs March 9 through June 5 at DeNunzio Pool, weekdays from 5 to 6:30 a.m. There is no class on Memorial Day, May 25.

Open to adults 18 and older, PAM accommodates all levels from fitness lap swimming to competition training.

Spring session fees are $245 for both residents and non-residents. Spring swimmers must also hold a current U.S. Masters Swimming (USMS) membership ($75 annually); register under Club Affiliation: Garden State Masters and Workout Group: Princeton Area Masters. USMS membership is required for all indoor session swimmers, including drop-in guests. Visit usms.org to join or renew.

Pickleball Clinic

Beginner Pickleball Clinic runs five Wednesdays — April 29 through May 27 — from 11 a.m. to noon at the CP South Tennis Courts (pickleball courts near the tennis wall and Community Park Pool).

Open to adults 18 and older, the five-week clinic covers equipment, rules, basic shot techniques, court positioning, and strategy. Enrollment is limited to 8 participants; minimum 4 required.

Fees are $108 for Princeton residents and $138 for non-residents for all five sessions. The program is led by instructor Evan Patrick.
