​Sustainable Princeton to host Podcast Host and Author, Charles Brown

[Princeton, NJ]: On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, Sustainable Princeton in partnership with Not In Our Town Princeton and the Princeton Public Library, will host Charles T. Brown, podcast host, CEO of Equitable Cities and author of Arrested Mobility: Overcoming the Threat to Black Movement at the Princeton Public Library for a discussion on the intersection of race, transportation and sustainability.

"Transportation is the second-largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in Princeton,” said Christine Symington, Executive Director of Sustainable Princeton. “Reducing those emissions means making it safe and accessible for everyone in our community to walk and bike. But this effort goes beyond safer infrastructure—it's also about recognizing the inequities in how this infrastructure gets built and managed. Our town’s Climate Action Plan envisions a Princeton where all residents can access safe, affordable, low-carbon housing and transportation. That vision is only possible if we confront the interconnected nature of these challenges.”
Topics Charles will discuss at the event include:

• Barriers to bike access and use in communities of color
• What we should be thinking about when implementing rules or regulations to promote e-bike safety
• How the four P's (Polity, Policy, Planning, and Policing) affect arrested mobility and sustainability
• How to implement complete streets, mindful of competing needs

“We don't typically think of transportation as a component of systemic racism, but a lack of transportation impacts one's ability in significant ways, including the jobs we pursue, the foods we eat, and access to healthcare. We look forward to Mr. Brown's timely and important discussion on his book Arrested Mobility,” said Caroline Clarke, chair of Not In Our Town Princeton.

Labyrinth Books will be present to sell books for Charles to sign.

This free public event is hosted by the Princeton Public Library on May 22 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room. It can also be watched virtually on the Library’s YouTube channel.
