Two Princeton School District Students Diagnosed With Whooping Cough

Both students were vaccinated before getting the illness, according to Planet Princeton.

Two students in the Princeton School District were recently diagnosed with whooping cough, Planet Princeton reports.

Students at Community Park School and Riverside Elementary School tested positive for the illness, including one diagnosis before the school year started, according to the report.

Whooping cough, also known as pertussis, is a disease of the respiratory system cause by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis.

For the most part, infants younger than six months and kids 11-18 years old are affected by the disease, which is characterized by severe coughing spells and a “whooping” noise when the person breathes in.

Both students were vaccinated for the disease before getting it, according to the report.
