Victory for Democracy

New Jersey — In a decisive move hailed as a win for democratic fairness, U.S. District Court Judge Zahid Quraishi ruled in favor of Rep. Andy Kim’s lawsuit to end the controversial “county line” ballot design in New Jersey elections. Judge Quraishi ordered that the ballot for the upcoming June 4 primary be formatted in the “office-block” style, where candidates for the same office are grouped together. This is currently adopted in 49 other states and two New Jersey countries-Salem and Sussex. Under the county line system, candidates not favored by the party elites could have their names placed far away from their opponents called “ballot Siberia”, which favors incumbents.

Rep. Kim lauded the decision as “a victory for fairer, more democratic politics in New Jersey.” This ruling will encourage more candidates, including diverse candidates, to run for office.

Dan Dart, a moderate Democrat running for the 12th Congressional District, is elated over this ruling. “I am personally excited for this ruling as it provides a fair chance against my opponent, a career politician running for her sixth term in Washington after 17 years in the New Jersey Assembly.'' Dart, reflecting on the sentiment aligned with the recent Pew Research survey of voters, which strongly supports both age and term limits. Dart added, “Our Constitution’s Framers designed the House to be responsive to the people. This ruling aligns with that vision, allowing new candidates with new voices and vision to participate.”

Dart pledges to revitalize leadership in Congress. He commits to protecting Medicare for Seniors without endorsing a Medicare for All plan, which he argues would adversely affect taxes and benefits. Dart proposes to make New Jersey more affordable by restoring the full state and local tax deduction (SALT) and introducing a tax credit for renters.

Further, Dart is determined to reform legal immigration systems, to restore women's rights, to increase federal funding for education, and to protect the environment, highlighting the urgency after the warmest year on record.

In conclusion, Dart states, “Our best days are ahead, but it requires fresh leadership to move our nation forward. I will bring that change.”
