Wawa Sandwich Had Maggots Crawling Inside, Man Says (Video)

A customer took a video of the tiny bugs he said he found crawling in a sandwich he bought at a New Jersey Wawa.

A Wawa customer got more than he paid for when he went to the deli counter last week. And it was not the kind of thing he expected to see on his way back from Six Flags Great Adventure (video below).

Chris Garcia and his mother took a video, which was broadcast by NJ101.5, to show the world what was inside the sandwich he purchased at the new Wawa on Silvia Street in Ewing Township, New Jersey: Maggots.

Garcia told the station he was coming home from a late shift at his job at Six Flags Great Adventure when he decided to stop for a sandwich. Then he started eating the chicken cheesesteak with buffalo sauce, topped with honey mustard and ranch dressing with spinach and pickles.

“I realized my sandwich and my sauce, it’s moving up the little wrap they put it in,” he told the station. “I’m like, ‘What is this?'”

He took two bites, according to The Trentonian, and realized something was out of the norm.

“My sauce started going up on my paper wrapper,” Garcia told the publication. “Sauce isn’t supposed to do that. So I flipped my light back on and I saw two maggots just moving around my sandwich.”

Attempts by Patch to reach Wawa representatives were unsuccessful, but in a statement to The Trentonian, a Wawa spokeswoman said the company inspects its stores on a daily basis and "have rigorous processes in place to prevent incidents of this type from ever occurring.”

“While we never speculate on an unverified video, we do have an extremely detailed process to authenticate and assess complaints surrounding anything that would take away from the best and most positive Wawa experience possible,” Wawa spokeswoman Lori Bruce said in an email to the publication. “We hold ourselves to the highest standard of quality in the food that we serve and the conditions in which we serve it.”

On the video, you hear the voice of what sounds like his mother: "Oh hell no... This is what my son found when he ordered a sandwich from Wawa."
