White Supremacy Group To March In Princeton Saturday

PRINCETON, NJ — The white supremacist group the New Jersey European Heritage Association will be hosting a march in Princeton at Palmer Square at noon on Saturday.

Flyers were posted in town announcing the march, causing many outraged residents to form their own counter-protest march in response.

"A NeoNazi hate group is showing up in Princeton this Saturday to spew their racist antisemitic message. Hell no!! We're asking EVERYONE to show up and 'shut it down' with a nonviolent counterprotest. We'll smother their vile message with our messages of love and compassion!" stated Not In Our Town - Princeton.

Mayor Liz Lempert and the Princeton Police both said they are aware of the planned marches.

"Our police are taking all the necessary precautions to ensure everyone’s safety, and are encouraging any counter-protesters to keep a safe distance and avoid direct confrontation," Lempert told Patch. "These individuals have a right to free speech however despicable their message of hate, bigotry, and ignorance. We stand in opposition to this twisted attempt to spew hate."

Princeton Police also noted they have not received any formal requests for permits or been formally advised by any organizations of a scheduled protest.

"However we are aware of the potential for various types of gatherings this weekend and will prepare as appropriate," Princeton Police Sgt. Frederick R. Williams said.

The Not In Our Town counter protest will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Tiger Park in Palmer Square Saturday. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and layers.

Additionally Central Jersey Democratic Socialists of America, along with a local rapid response group, the Industrial Workers of the World General Defense Committee (IWW GDC), and Socialist Party USA (SPUSA), are also organizing a counter-protest.

"We believe that the best way to avoid a violent confrontation will be to overwhelm them with numbers and deny them the space to spread their genocidal ideology, the Central NJ Democratic Socialists of America posted. "By dominating the space with sheer numbers, we believe that we can show them that they are not welcome, in New Jersey or anywhere else, and steal away their platform to promote our own vision of a better world."
